Hey, was at an estate sale, they were selling this old dell laptop for like $70 and they forgot to wipe it. Found this doc on the desktop. Did anybody know about this? They spelled Mycelica wrong. Tried to find the gofundme page, but looks like it was reported and taken down around 2024.

Statistics: Posted by GuestUser8890012 — Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:49 pm — Replies 5 — Views 79

Hi everyone. I discovered this system recently and while I don't have anyone to actually play a game with, I absolutely love the lore and the setting. I've been designing some characters and I fell in love with these two in particular. I don't know if anyone here is into roleplaying, but I thought that some of you might enjoy reading a short fic that I wrote between two of my characters. Feedback welcome, but please be gentle! I only started writing recently and this is just a small scene. I'm hoping to expand it into a longer fic someday.

---

Yukino stretched under the light of The Sun, petals lifted into the sky and roots burying themselves into the grass. Closing her eyes, she hummed a tune that she'd carried with her from childhood, one that when given words was meant to celebrate The Sun's blessings. She felt her sense of self drifting, carried away on the breeze as she became less herself and more one with the world around her. Each shift of the breeze brought with it new sounds and smells, quiet and sweet. ...Too sweet.

She blinked open her eyes, self rushing back to her. "Meadow," she breathed, knowing before she turned.

A quiet churring laugh behind her. "I was willing to wait, you know."

"No you weren't," Yukino giggled in return, pale petals flushing a little as she turned to face her companion. Meadow's periwinkle wings fluttered as she floated toward Yukino. Reaching for the Calyptra, she traced a blushing petal with her slender, dark fingers. "You don't believe me? For you, I would wait for at least twenty minutes. Perhaps even an hour."

Yukino blushed further, her own emerald hand raising to her face to wrap around Meadow's. "And just what are we supposed to get done in twenty minutes?" she teased as she intertwined their fingers.

"Nothing," Meadow said nonchalantly, the wings on her face fluttering in some pattern that Yukino hadn't learned yet, serving chiefly to hide her smile. "That's just a baseline. It's up to you to convince me that it's worth it to stay longer."

In tandem, the two moved to sit together on the grass, Meadow nestling herself among Yukinos petals. The Calyptra tugged her hand away to run her fingertips along one of Meadow's wings. They sat there quietly together, enjoying each other's presence under The Sun, until Yukino broke the silence. "Do you ever think about it?' she asked softly. "Staying for more than a week at a time?" She tried to keep her voice light, but the yearning crept in at the edges.

Meadow's fluttering wings stilled, her sigh warming Yukino's cheek. "Yuki..." she said wearily, and the tone made the Calyptra's heart sink a little. "We've talked about this before. It just doesn't happen. Can you remember the last time you knew a Lyelli who lingered in one place?"

Yukino angled her face slightly to catch Meadow's eye. "Who cares if it's not done if you want to do it, though?" she asked. "People change all the time. The stars are changing quickly nowadays. People are starting to do whatever they want, and-"

"Who says that I want to stay?" Meadow interrupted sharply, and Yukino stopped abruptly. Silence fell between them again, but this time even The Sun couldn't warm the chill that fell between them.

"...Do you?" Yukino whispered eventually. It was the question that had been forbidden between them, that she never dared to ask, that Meadow certainly wouldn't bring up. But something about her time under The Sun today had made her not brave, but bold. Her heart fully unfurled, she sank her roots into the grass and waited.

It was a long wait, long enough that she wondered if Meadow would simply leave. But eventually she felt the press of the Lyelli's wings against her cheek, a fluttering kiss. "I'll think about it," her winged lover said quietly. "I will, Yuki. But it wouldn't be an easy path for either of us, if I did."

Even with warnings attached, this ghost of a promise was enough to thaw some of the chill, to bring warmth back to Yukino's petals. "Thank you," she whispered, turning toward Meadow, her petals shielding them from any prying passersby. It wouldn't be enough forever. But it was enough for now.
Statistics: Posted by yukinohana — Sun Jan 27, 2002 4:30 pm — Replies 6 — Views 49

I’m using the color coding scheme which has become common for these types of discussions. In case you’re not familiar, here’s a rundown:
*Red: Bad, useless options, or options which are extremely situational. Nearly never useful.
**Orange: OK options, or useful options that only apply in rare circumstances. Useful sometimes.
***Green: Good options. Useful often.
****Blue: Fantastic options, often essential to the function of your character. Useful very frequently.

Coterie:
***Humans. Flexible enough that you can really fit any alignment/playstyle. Hard to go wrong with a human. Cons: boring.
*Lyelli - difficulty communicating cross-species (need to know Lyelli sign language) can make it challenging to run a Lyelli officer without an all-Lyelli crew since so much of the Officer class features rely on communicating with your red-shirts. Know what you’re signing up for.
***Chowlus → Strong combat-focused option for like a security officer. Do not pick if you’re playing diplo.
****Komore → Speed penalty can be a problem in time sensitive situations. Not a **bad** option, but more of an RP angle than anything else.
*Calyptra → Just no.
**Pleuryke → you really gotta protect yourself here given how fragile the suit is. Noble Sacrifice is an absolute must-have for away missions. Bonus to relations with Molxi can make them a niche pick depending on crew composition.
****Molxi Great pick for engineering-specced bridge crew. Bonuses to mycorrhizal communications really help and Molxi have no penalties to communication with any other coterie, making them great at cross-species diplo or rapport checks. Also does well as ship counselor for the same reason.

Origin:
Don’t want to get into all the origins here, just want to highlight some options that work well for an officer:
****The Fields - Strong Back synergizes well with logistics officer if you’re doing that. Outdoorsman can be good if you go on away missions a lot.
****The Court - Pretty much only an option for Counselors or first officers in diplo-heavy playstyles. Bonus to affluence can be nice sometimes but kind of niche
****The Corps - Generic security officer background. Hard to go wrong with this one.
***The Slums - Kind of a wildcard.
****The Library - Good for like engineering or first officers, though combat tactics bonuses can be solid for security too.

Alignment: Alignment is mostly flavor so I won’t get into the weeds on this one. Do what you feel.

Skill clusters:
Suggested investment varies wildly depending on your spec. Obviously security officers want lots of investment in defense, Logistics officers in scutwork, Engineering in mycorrhizal communication. Just remember that your redshirts can cover some of your weaknesses so don’t be afraid to minmax and take penalties in the clusters you don’t care about. If you’re not getting into combat very often you can take heavy penalties to Defense for example and just use Noble Sacrifice to cover yourself for those times when you do get into trouble.

Class features: not going to get into the weeds on all of these, just going to list out a few important/notable picks
**Get your hands dirty - Take it or leave it tbh. I would put this at the bottom of your list of priorities unless it’s very important to your character concept.
****Eleventh Hour - Absolutely essential. All of your redshirts getting a bonus during “time-critical operations” is so open to interpretation that 90% of GMs are just going to give it to you on all of your important rolls.
***Noble Sacrifice - It hurts to lose one of your little guys but if you’re not combat-specced this keeps one bad roll from taking you out of the game completely.
***Lead from the front/hold the line/sally forth - solid picks for security officers. Skip for everyone else.
***Requisition/Delegate - Solid picks for logistics officers. Skip for everyone else.
****Signal Retreat - separating Retreat from the rest of the combat focused class features because this one is vital for all officers. You’re just gonna get into combat sometimes, and you need to get the hell out of combat if you’re not specced for it
**Motivate - Sure. Low priority, but it’s fine. You’re going to end up taking this eventually if you play an officer for long enough, but never first.
*Retire - It’s a fun flavor thing but it provides you with actually no bonuses.
**Promote - low priority, but nice to have.
*Approve PTO- Not worth it. It’s not even like a “roleplaying as a bad boss” thing, the bonuses are just not here to make going down a redshirt for a whole mission worth it.

Before I leave you, a final note on synergies: There’s a temptation to try to cover your weaknesses here but I’d suggest you instead try to augment your strengths. The class is built so that you can burn a few redshirts on bad rolls. Be a specialist, and use your synergies to make your large numbers even larger rather than trying to cover your bases.
Statistics: Posted by mothers_1st_son — Sat Sep 29, 2001 12:56 pm — Replies 0 — Views 32

Hello friends,
My name is Mr. Jackson, and I teach 6th grade science. I’m really passionate about getting the next generation interested in Mycelica, so I started an after school club at the middle school to run a campaign. So far, four awesome kids have signed up and made characters. I want to document our progress here to hopefully help other educators learn how they can get kids into this incredible game.

Here’s the characters my students made:
Starshine Brightwillow (played by Ashley, age 11): Lyelli Entente Healer
Spock (it made him really happy) (played by Aaron, age 12): Komore, Professional, Researcher
Damien Doomathor (played by David, age 11): Human, Expansion, Bridge Crew
Xenavee Yggbazil (played by Theresa, age 12): Pleuryke, Sub Rosa, Diplomat

Theresa’s dad was a DM for a campaign I did a few years ago, so she knows some of how the game works. Hopefully she can help guide the other students, too! I’ll keep everyone posted as we go!

–
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Hey Mycelica heads, long-time player, first time poster here. Need some advice for getting my girlfriend into the game. We’re playing with some friends next week and I’m going to DM. Trying to create her char and having an issue: she can’t pick between Pleuryke and Lyelli, so she wants a half Pleuryke half Lyelli. She doesn’t really get the mechanics and I’m not trying to overwhelm her, but it comes down to she really wants the “water guys with butterfly wings.” I guess my question is, is there a lore accurate way I could make this work? I know it’s speculated that Pleuryke could reproduce with the Molxi, but has anyone found anything that could suggest they do with Lyelli, too?

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. I want to teach her about the actual lore and make it accurate for the other players, but I don’t know if she’ll want to play if she can’t do the char this way.

–
This user’s signature can be found in the cosmos.
Statistics: Posted by koterie-kid — Mon Sep 10, 2001 1:08 pm — Replies 7 — Views 132
