GF needs char help

Hey Mycelica heads, long-time player, first time poster here. Need some advice for getting my girlfriend into the game. We’re playing with some friends next week and I’m going to DM. Trying to create her char and having an issue: she can’t pick between Pleuryke and Lyelli, so she wants a half Pleuryke half Lyelli. She doesn’t really get the mechanics and I’m not trying to overwhelm her, but it comes down to she really wants the “water guys with butterfly wings.” I guess my question is, is there a lore accurate way I could make this work? I know it’s speculated that Pleuryke could reproduce with the Molxi, but has anyone found anything that could suggest they do with Lyelli, too?

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. I want to teach her about the actual lore and make it accurate for the other players, but I don’t know if she’ll want to play if she can’t do the char this way.

I have an idea! What if her character is a Pleuryke but is really enamored with the Lyelli and they wear wings similar to the Lyelli's on their watersuit? I think it'd be interesting if the different coterie started borrowing from each other aesthetically. We really don't have anything from the documentation about how they dress (aside from the Komore!) and I think all kinds of development in fashion could happen as the different civilizations get in contact and trade with one another. That way she could have the Plueryke mechanics and the Lyelli aesthetics! ^_^

Ultimately, it's going to be up to your Emissary of the Stars on whether to allow something like this. So far as I can tell, there's no supported mechanic for Pleuryke-Lyelli crossbreeding in-system - and the lore seems to suggest that such a pairing would be... highly unusual? At a minimum. I think that Yukino's idea, of a Pleuryke who is interested in the Lyelli and is wearing decorative wings, could be a lore-friendly and unique way to represent your GF's character concept without requiring too much homebrew or systems modification. I approve!
